Pet First Aid

This is a fully online course designed to teach you lifesaving skills in the event of an animal emergency. The most significant difference between human and animal first aid is that animals tend to bite. The first consideration of this first aid course is to make sure that you understand how to create a safe working environment. This means how to restrain and handle an injured animal appropriately. If the first aider (you) gets hurt, there will be nothing that person can do for the injured animal. Furthermore, animals that are known to have bitten a person – even if the bite occurred during an emergency situation in which the animal was in pain – will require quarantine until Rabies has been ruled out as a cause of the bite. However, two significant differences between treating humans and animals are that animals can't tell you where they hurt and their anatomy/physiology differs; so getting pet-specific training is imperative.

By learning Pet First-Aid you’ll be able to:

  • Lower your pet’s body temperature if he suffers from Heat Stroke and prevents brain damage or death.

  • Stop bleeding and prevent infection by properly bandaging a wound.

  • Prevent your pet from losing consciousness by alleviating choking.

  • Expel poison from your pet’s system by properly inducing vomiting.

  • Artificially keep your pet’s heart and lungs working until you can get them professional medical help.
